India and Sri Lanka Conduct SLINEX-26
The Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy conducted the 13th edition of the Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise, SLINEX-26, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The exercise took place from 17 to 21 September 2026. It focused on maritime cooperation, interoperability and mutual understanding between the two navies.
The Indian Navy deployed INS Kavaratti and INS Jyoti. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy participated with SLNS Sindurala.
SLINEX was conceptualised in 2005. Since then, the exercise has supported closer maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.
India Begins First Farm-Level Soil Carbon Payments
India has initiated its first farm-level soil carbon payments for farmers in Punjab and Haryana.
Around 2,550 smallholder farmers will receive more than ₹2.9 crore for adopting verified regenerative farming practices.
The payments form part of the Aadi farmer carbon programme, launched by Grow Indigo in 2019 with technical guidance from ICAR.
Farmers adopted practices such as Direct Seeded Rice (DSR), reduced tillage and crop-residue management.
The first issuance covered around 30,000 acres and generated more than 50,000 verified carbon credits.
Individual farmers received approximately ₹3,000 to ₹15,000, depending on their verified carbon credits.
Anti-Narcotics Task Force Conference to Begin
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the third national conference of chiefs of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in New Delhi on 22 September 2026.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is organising the two-day conference.

New Tiger Cat Species Identified in Bolivia
Scientists have identified a new wild cat species named Leopardus tilcayo in Bolivia’s Yungas cloud forest.
The species belongs to the tiger cat group found across South America.
Researchers identified the species through genetic analysis. The findings were published in Current Biology on 17 September 2026.
The species, locally known as Tilcayo, measures around 46 cm from head to body and weighs about 1.4 kg.
Genetic research indicates that its lineage diverged from related tiger cats around 1.4 million years ago.

India will host the 11th Asian Senior Wushu Championships in 2028 for the first time.
