Amritsar
The Amritsar is one of India’s most deeply spiritual cities. It’s a major commercial and cultural center in the heart of Punjab. Situated in the culturally rich state of Punjab, in Northwestern India, the holy city was founded in 1577 by Guru Ram Das.The city is the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion and is home to the Harmandir Sahib, known as the Golden Temple. This is the holiest temple in the Sikh faith. A day in this peaceful city starts with spiritual prayers from Gurudwaras. The original name is first the ancient lake, then the temple complex, and later the surrounding city, meaning “pool of ambrosial nectar.” The faithful travel to the golden center of the temple via a causeway, or walkway across the surrounding pool. The water is considered purifying, and Sikhs can bathe in it from the outer platform.
